This is a full-time Visiting Academic Professional position in the University Library. The position provides Operational and Reference support for the University Archives and the Archives of the American Library Association, with duties split 50% between each area. The position reports to the Assistant University Archivist and thereby through his reporting line to the University Archivist (Head of the University Archives).
Duties and Responsibilities: This limited-term academic professional position assists with the management of archival materials and manuscripts of the University Archives and the American Library Association Archives. The incumbent assumes a leading role in the provision of reference and public services for archival materials held by the University Archives, oversees the management of the American Library Association Archives, and assists in the supervision of graduate assistants and undergraduate employees. It is available for a minimum of two years. It may be extended or made permanent if funding is available in the future.
Specific responsibilities will vary from week to week but may include:
? conducting reference interviews and providing mediated access to archival materials; ? providing remote reference services; ? developing specialized reference guides for archives and manuscripts; ? retrieving archival records and manuscripts for users; ? interpreting access and records policies; ? contributing to the development of archival policies and procedures; ? documenting archival policies and procedures; ? planning and supervising the arrangement and description of archives, manuscript collections, and electronic records; ? developing/maintaining content in archival databases, finding aids and web pages; and ? preparing and implementing digitization plans, in collaboration with other archival and Library staff.

Salary and Rank:
Salary commensurate with credentials and experience.
Terms of Appointment:
Twelve-month appointment; 24 work days' vacation per year; 11 paid holidays; 12 days annual sick leave (cumulative up to a maximum of 240 days) plus an additional 13 days (non-cumulative) per year if necessary; health insurance, requiring a small co-payment, is provided to employees (coverage for dependents may be purchased); participation in the State Universities Retirement System is required upon appointment (8% of member's salary is withheld and is tax exempt until retirement); newly hired university employees are covered by the Medicare portion of Social Security, and are subject to its deduction.
