For those of us who grew up with it
MacGyver was a show that defied this whole jumping the shark business. The entire premise - with Richard Dean Anderson's character fighting criminals and terrorists with whatever odd junk he happened to find lying around - was deeply ridiculous and the very outlandishness of it was entirely the appeal. The tougher the situation and more ludicrous the solution the more awesome
MacGyver was. It was just that simple. And now he's bringing his rolls of duct tape to the big screen.
Variety report that New Line are in talks with Insidious and Saw director James Wan to direct a big screen version of the show and while it'll be difficult to get the balance right - I have no idea how you hit the tone of this in a standalone big screen adventure - it'll certainly be interesting to see them try.
