NFL Power Rankings: The Arizona Cardinals Finally Move Up

Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

For weeks, no months, the Arizona Cardinals have been moving down the NFL Power Rankings reaching a low of 29. After their win against the Detroit Lions the Cardinals have moved up two spots to 27. The Cardinals offense has proven to be the worst in the NFL, but their defense is a whole different story.

The Cardinals secondary is one of the best in the NFL giving up just an average of 199.3 yards per game which is good enough for fourth in the league. Considering the offense is so bad, it?s actually quite amazing this team has five wins. The Cardinals still have to play the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears, so if your a fan I would not get your hopes too high.

In the Detroit win, the Cardinals had the help of two interceptions for touchdowns by Greg Toler and Rashad Johnson. Plus, Patrick Peterson picked one off and returned it so RB Beanie Wells could score easily. I have said it before, but the Cardinals? offense has let this team down almost the entire year. WR Larry Fitzgerald has been under used and the Cardinals basically paid him to do nothing all season long. This is not Fitzgerald?s fault, but it is still something worth mentioning.

It is hard to know whether or not the Cardinals will stick with Ken Whisenhunt, but if they find somebody better he will be gone. His team has had injury problems all season long, but that is not an excuse for a nine game losing streak. Fans are looking forward to next year, but maybe they can play a few games of playoff spoiler and finish 7-9, so the team does not look too bad.
