The International Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2013 in Las Vegas has already seen the announcement of various exciting new gadgets, phones, computers, tablets and televisions from many tech giants. One of these announcements that drew a lot of attention came from the world?s largest consumer technology companies, Samsung. Samsung is one of the world?s leading manufacturers of smart TVs and high definition TVs. At CES 2013, it unveiled its line of HD televisions that include models such as F8000 and F7500 series LED TVs, F8500 Plasma TV and OLED F9500. These latest offerings can recognise an expanded range of gestures. People can swipe through the on-screen menus and dramatically changes the way the old remote control is used. However, the show-stopper among all these TV models was Samsung?s next flagship TV, the Samsung UN85S9 Ultra HD, also called as the S9 UHD.

This is possible because of the set design that allows the screen to be rotated and tilted easily. The 85-inch UHD is, according to Samsung, the largest in the world and has 4K resolution. That means it has 4 times the pixels as a 1080p HDTV. Such higher resolution means that the TV screens can be bigger and people can sit closer to screens without a decline in the picture quality. Some claim that people will be able to sit as close as the diagonal length of the screen and still not lose any clarity.

The S9 UHD comes with a proprietary up-scaling engine that is capable of converting HD or Full-HD pictures to UHD quality. It can restore detail information to create more lifelike detailing in pictures. According to Samsung, the S9 uses Precision Black Pro technology to deliver these sharpest images. The S9 uses hundreds of blocks of LEDs to make blacks look even darker and to deliver high contrast ratios and dimming control. Samsung claims this has never been seen in large format displays.

This new generation TV is equipped with a 1.35-GHz A15 quad-core processor that handles various functions including upconverting video to 4K resolution and accepting voice commands with a built-in microphone. The processor also powers Samsung Voice Interaction and pushes more content through the Samsung?s redesigned Smart Hub application. This powerful processor delivers processing modes such as the Frame Rate Conversion engine and the Motion Judder Canceller. The S9 boasts of an inbuilt 2.2 channel audio offering 120 watt output that is considerably more powerful than the 10 and 20 watt speaker systems that are normally available with HDTVs. It also has a built-in webcam for video calling through Skype.

According to Samsung President Boo-Keun Yoon, the new features are incorporated to provide users with more choice and make TV viewing easier. No release date has yet been finalised but the S9 is expected to hit markets in Q1 or Q2 of 2013. Also Samsung hasn?t announced the pricing except for mentioning that it will be competitive.
