Enjoy free yoga! Register for something! Adopt an ... - Health Blog

I need to do yoga. I need to do yoga. I need to do yoga. If you ever saw me TRY to do yoga, you?d nudge the fellow flexible friend bending gracefully next to you and whisper, ?She is the most non-flexible person I?ve ever seen. She really needs to do more yoga.?

Can't you just see yourself getting all nice & flexible during the Free Day of Yoga? (DMN Staff Photo)

THAT said, Free Day of Yoga is Monday! Get started on it early by ? well, paying attention to Idea Numero Uno listed below.

Yes, it?s Friday, the start of a long weekend, which means even MORE time to sip margaritas on patios and eat bean dip! Oh wait; I mean even more time to get all fitness-y and have fun in the process. Here you go.

1. Start Free Yoga Day Early Our pals at Luke?s Locker are gathering at Crow Collection of Asian Art on Saturday at 12:30 for culture and bending and all sorts of neat stuff.

2. Join DRC and run your first race Saturday morning! The Dallas Running Club has to be one of the best bargains around. Annual membership ranges from $25 for one person to $40 for a family. That includes all sorts of neat stuff, including eight free races a year ? like the one Saturday morning at 8 a.m. which includes breakfast!

If you?re not a member, it?ll cost you a whopping $5.

3. Bite the bullet and register for something. Yep, those in the know say that signing up for a race or event (i.e. paying good money for it) will motivate you to DO it. That said, you have three whole days to get started on training for the Dallas 13.1 Marathon on October 27 and/or DRC Half (prices go up after September 1); the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day or the Dallas Marathon (formerly known as White Rock Marathon) on December 9.
Not a runner? Volunteers are ALWAYS needed.

4. Rescue an animal. Chances are pretty good that you?ll consider yourself to be among the rescued too, once you fall for a pooch or kitty who craves your company.
This sweet fellow is Dakota, and while he?s not ready to be adopted, Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) will have plenty of available and eager greyhounds Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Orvis in Preston Center and Sunday at 11 at Petco in West Plano.

Look at those eyes! That NOSE! Love (and lowered blood pressure) awaits (Greyhound Adoption League of Texas)

Can?t make it there? Then check out these sources?but make sure you?re ready. Pets can be absolutely wonderful ? all sorts of health and companionship benefits! ? but they?re a responsibility, too.
