WINSTON-SALEM
More than 100 North Carolina National Guard members returned home on Independence Day to reunite with their family members after being separated for a year.
WFMY reports the soldiers are from the 1452nd Transportation Company, which is based in Winston-Salem. The unit was in charge of relocating heavy equipment throughout Afghanistan.
Family members welcomed the troops home at a ceremony Wednesday at the North Carolina National Guard Armory in Winston-Salem.
The National Guard soldiers returned back home to the United States about a week ago. They went through medical screenings, administrative processing and reintegration training at Fort Bliss, Texas.
